We all know that we should drink more water. But let's face it, plain H2O can be pretty zzzzz.com.
I'm told that vodka & soda is not really to be used for general rehydration purposes (even with fresh lime!) so the next best thing for water phobes is probably fruit-infused aqua.
Fruit infusers are the latest kitchen gadget/health hack that you didn't know you needed. The idea is to gently flavour plain old water with your favourite fruit and vegetable combinations, making it tastier and therefore more appealing to drink, and giving you the added benefit of extra vitamins.
I've been using the £15.99 Aquatiser this week, adding strawberries, cucumbers, lime, mint, apples, pineapple and blueberries, basically whatever's around (no Grey Goose).
The bottle features four detachable compartments and the idea is to add fruit and/or vegetables to the bottom compartment then screw the juicer on to compress the fruit - it then extracts the juices and acts as a filter. Produce can also be placed in the top compartment for extra flavour.
Why not just add fruit to a regular water bottle, you ask? Well the juicers give a stronger and quicker fruit infusion and taste (if adding fruit to a regular water bottle/jug it will normally take a few hours to get any flavour), the glass keeps the drink fresher and cooler for longer, there are no chemical nasties to worry about and the detachable parts make it easy to remove the fruit afterwards with no mess (perfect to put in a smoothie).
PROS: Tastes great and the flavour lasts all day with several top ups. Can eat the fruit afterwards. Reusing the glass bottle means that you are being kind to the planet.
CONS: Bit of prep involved (fine if you're used to making smoothies/juices in the morning anyway though). The bottle is pretty heavy/bulky even when empty.
VERDICT: I like it a lot. Made drinking water an altogether more elegant experience and also made me realise how many plastic bottles I get through each day. A convert.
