It has only taken me eight years of marriage, but I finally FINALLY made it to Babington House for a romantic mini break late last year.
Expectations were sky high, as friends lucky enough to stay for work or play have raved about it so much, and they were completely and utterly surpassed by this gorgeous, glamorous countryside hotel
From the beautiful grounds to the freestanding baths, immaculate service and Cowshed on tap... this place is built for the kind of elegant debauchery I was born for. Can I move in please?
TIN HOT TUBS:
These huge, curved, tubs-built-for-two are perfect for a post-treatment soak, surrounded by fairy lights, candles and soothing tunes.
The patio doors give you a view of the pretty walled garden, but I recommend 'forgetting' your swimmers, closing the curtains, ordering champagne, and firing up the bubbles. A discreet knock at the door will let you know when your 30 minutes are up.
HOME FROM HOME VIBE:
The staff here are something special. We only stayed for two nights and by the second day of our anniversary break they remembered our names, favourite cocktail orders and how we like to take our toast in the morning.
From the moment we arrived and were given a quick tour and some tips on the sunniest and quietest spots to drink and doze, we felt like we were staying at the (super stylish) country pile of some fabulous pals.
And there's no doubt this is a luxury property, but we were totally at ease wandering down to the pool at nighttime in our fluffy dressing gowns or wearing jeans for the five star food.
THE DRESSING GOWNS:
Hooded, fluffy, towelling, huge, fabulous...I spent approx. 50% of my time here in them.
COWSHED ON TAP:
Posh products are a given when staying at a high-end hotel, but the huge choice of Cowshed here in the rooms, the spa, the pool, the gym AND the main house kept us super soft and sweet-smelling for days. I have never had so many showers or baths in my life.
The indoor and outdoor (heated) pools are open until 10pm. And there's something very special about swimming outside in the dark before scurrying back to your room (to apply some more Cowshed).
ONE WHILE CHANGING:
I started falling in love with Babington the moment I spied the fairy tale house, but this nailed it for me. 'One While Changing' is a menu of cocktails that can be mixed in your room by one of the House bartenders as you get ready for your night out (or night in). Genius, and oh so fabulous.
THE (NOT SO) MINI BAR:
More booze-based fun with the litres of pre-mixed cocktails available in the room. Choose from bottles of Negroni, Old-Fashioned or Martini in the perfect size for a two night stay, with the beautiful crystal glassware and accessories provided adding an extra slice of sophistication.
COMPLIMENTARY AFTERNOON TEA:
The only thing better than afternoon tea is FREE afternoon tea. Every day at 3pm (4pm on Sundays) the house puts on an impressive spread of homemade scones, cakes, biscuits and sweet treats for guests which is a thoughtful and calorific touch that the husband adored.
BREAKFAST UNTIL 12PM:
No need to rush for breakfast (which features homemade granola, five-seed porridge, chunky marmalades, fresh smoothies, buttery pastries and fashionista favourite: avo on sourdough) because it's served until 12pm every day. And if you do manage to miss breakfast don't panic because it rolls seamlessly into lunch, which rolls into dinner, meaning that it's basically impossible to be hungry here, no matter how much hot tub action you get.
Attic Rooms start from £200 a night
