(fit kit) Why I'm a Gibson Girl: New workout brand put to the test on extreme fitness break

There are plenty of sportswear brands kicking around right now, and if you are actually planning on working out in your workout gear (rather than just posing for Instagram) it's important to know which ones deliver.

I spend a lot of my life in Lycra and have been trying out a few new brands on recent travels. And I am delighted to introduce you to Gibson Girl, aka my new BGB* (*best gym buddy).

Designed to be hard-working as well as good-looking this kit is my new go-to brand, having survived the ultimate sportswear test: a stint at The Body Camp Ibiza.

My week at The Body Camp was the most intense fitness experience of my life, and while other more established gym brands failed to keep up with the six plus hours of exercise we were doing daily (yep, SIX hours) my Gibson kit aced every challenge keeping me cool in the blazing sunshine and keeping its shape throughout boxing, yoga, circuit and Capoiera sessions, hillside hikes and even Vogu'ing classes.

The original Gibson Girls were the "It" girls of the late 19th century, a group of athletic, newly empowered women who spent their time playing golf and cycling around Central Park generally looking and being fabulous and the Gibson Girl brand has used these gals' pioneering spirit and love of style as the source of their inspiration.

Their first capsule collection is simple, stylish and super effective, featuring technical wizardry like sweat-wicking fabric, ventilation panels, flat seams and reflective stripes, as well as (v important) flattering designs.

I love LOVE the No Sweat Tank (£49) which feels light as silk and features a cooling mesh fabric and a dropped hem at the back to hide my bum (plus it's a brilliant tomato colour to match my face post boxing class).

And the On Point Tights (£69, way too cool to be called leggings) kept their shape after several hours of activity around the hills of North Ibiza, thanks to four-way stretch and 'recovery' technology. I did lose a few polka dots off the knees, but I had spent several hours in them doing downward dogs, burpees and squats all over gardens, verandas and beaches so we'll let them off.

Other reasons to join the Gibson gang?

Post sweatworking the kit washed well (everything was bright and fresh on a 30 degree wash) and the price point suits my pocket, managing to look fashion forward enough to wear to a Core Collective class while not totally breaking the bank. The returns policy is refreshingly simple, and it's nice to wear something a bit different when everyone else in class is matching in head-to-toe Sweaty Betty.

Smart. Sassy. Stylish. Stick it on your shopping list. Total Gibson Girl power.
