(style) The Little Brexit Dress: Save cash and STILL kill it this Christmas by updating an old LBD with tips from our favourite fashion pros

Times are tight, but don’t let Boris and co. kill your Christmas buzz.

If the invites are coming in thick and fast (of course they are!) and you can’t afford to splash out on a load of new outfits then recycling a LBD is the easiest way to look polished at your xmas parties.

A bit of clever-accessorising or re-thinking of how to wear an old favourite based on the latest trends is the frugal fashionista's speciality at this time of year.

And these styling tips from our most fashionable friends will save you piles of cash to spend on other retox necessities. You know, like Ubers, Twinkles, Nurofen...

HOW TO UPDATE LAST YEAR'S LBD...

1. ADD A GLAM POLO NECK

Erica Davies, founder of The Edited says:  "This season I'll be reinventing last year's spaghetti strap LBD by layering. Any kind of skinny fit polo neck adds a modern, cooler vibe to a more glam piece. Striped (£39.50 J Crew), lurex (£45 & Other Stories) or one of M&S's amazing £16 polo neck thermal bodies (hello fellow nanas, you know you want one) - I am less about the dressing up and more about the dressing it down."

2. SIMPLE SEQUINS, Flirty feathers

Leanne Bayley, Content Editor at Glamour says it's cool to sparkle, in moderation: "I love sequins as much as the next magpie, but let's be honest, how much wear do we really get out of them? Instead of going full-on bling I'll be adding just a touch of sparkle and shine to my winter wardrobe with accessories like this Zara bag (£29.99).

"And for my main Christmas look this year I'm swapping sequins for FEATHERS. And lots of them. Marabou trimmings were spotted on the Christopher Kane and McQueen catwalks so this year it's all about winging it (sorry not sorry for that one). Whether that's adding a feathered cape or accessory to an existing LBD OR going all out in the amazing Oasis dress (£135 - see below) which is lacy, feathery, comfy, and most importantly will make me feel like I'm one of Tina Turner's backing dancers and that, my friend, is always a good thing."

3. DRESS DOWN in leather and Trainers

MailOnline Fashion Finder Editor Wendy Douglas says: "An easy way to update your LBD for a new season is to give it a dressing down. This may sound strange, especially when it’s the time of year for sparkles and stilettos, but there’s nothing I love more than a sexy cocktail frock styled with a tough girl biker jacket and a pair of sneakers. Leather adds edge and insouciant cool to any look and with a slick of scarlet lipstick you’re good to go."

4. SHINE ON

Creative Director and Stylist Annie Swain says: "It might sound obvious but metallic is especially big this season. It's available everywhere - so loads of bargains to be had - and always looks f'ing amazing with a black dress.

"Zara's foil tops (£29.99) are killing it - throw one over your dress and you have an instant very-up-to-date party look that you can wear straight from the office."

Annie adds: "I also love anything slightly sheer (I generally don't bother with linings on a night out) and another easy way to make a piece more festive is to stick metallic underneath - preferably a shimmery bra."

5. STATEMENT SLEEVES AND WORKING GIRL tights

Stylist Leigh Williams says: "Make the most of the black beauty already in your wardrobe by layering it over a statement sleeve shirt for an 'I-just-threw-this-on' look. Ankle boots and a leather biker jacket will give it an extra 'cool girl' edge.

"And if you're looking for a more chic look add low denier tights (very AW16) and platform sandals. If it's good enough for Alexa Chung ... "
