We all know that hangovers are not big or clever, but they are par for the course for those of us who are a bit too fond of cocktails. And although abstaining is really the only way to avoid them totally, there are ways to ease your suffering and get you back on fighting form asap (ready to do it all again the next night?).
A kick-ass smoothie is one of the best ways to kick a hangover (and avoid bingeing on bad food/drink for breakfast and therefore feeling even worse) and our friends at spin studio Psycle are big fans of hardworking detox drinks pre-workout, post-workout and even post big night out.
At a recent bloggers event boss Rhian shared a festive smoothie recipe with us that is designed to balance and cleanse at the same time as delivering a serious a vitamin hit - aka the perfect morning after drink for the Detox|Retox crew.
FESTIVE SMOOTHIE WITH BENEFITS c/o Psycle
- 1/4 avocado
- 1 stalk celery
- 1 inch fresh ginger
- 1/2 lemon
- 1 frozen banana
- 2 medjool dates
- 1/4 cup soaked cashews
- 1/4 tsp spirulina
- 200ml coconut water
- Nut milk of your choice - enough to make it as smooth as you like
This drink is full of fibre and a great balance of carbohydrate, protein and essential fats with detoxing spirulina and lemon to help cleanse the system.
After living on these for breakfast for the past week I can also attest that the pretty pale green colour isn't too terrifying on a queasy stomach, and the taste is more tart then savoury, with the dates and banana adding just enough sweetness.
Whizz up all the ingredients in a Vitamix/food processor, adding as much nut milk as necessary to get your desired consistency. Add ice if you forgot to freeze your banana.
