Happy New Year!
Happy New You?
Most of us could do with a bit more health, wellness and positivity in our lives in 2017.
But instead of starting the year with a list of hardcore intentions like dropping two dress sizes (me: 2013 - fail), doing Bikram five times a week (me: 2015 - fail) stopping drinking forever (me: every year for the last ten years - fail x 10) how about some gentler resolutions to send you on your way to your best year yet?
Changing your life doesn't have to start with drastic measures. In fact, it's the small steps now that are most likely to affect your future big time.
Whether that's introducing five minutes of quiet time to your day, jumping off the bus two stops earlier, getting off the sofa and on to the mat or making friends with kale, focusing on behaviour-specific intentions rather then results-based goals will - ironically - deliver the best results.
I've been playing around with yoga website Yogaia.com throughout December, using the online classes to keep up my newfound practice on the road during festive family travels, stay calm amid the chaotic party season and even stave off some horrible hangovers (note - this doesn't always work, yoga might work miracles but it's not completely magic).
I've loved doing the live online classes (joined via my laptop or iPhone from various friend's houses and hotel room floors) as well as the pre-recorded sessions, workouts and guided meditations that can be accessed 24/7.
And for January I'm excited to collaborate with them on The Year Of Your Programme, a fifteen day mind, body and spirit 'detox' programme designed to help us declutter our lives and replace bad habits with healthy ones.
Each day a new yoga, workout or meditation class will be posted, from simple ten-minute morning stretches, express fitness sessions, expert talks, power yoga classes and even workshops on practicing mindfulness and creating (and sticking to) intentions.
And you can join in with all of them without even leaving the house :)
I'll be taking part in the programme for the next fifteen days (and reviewing the service at the end) and you can join me by registering for thirty days free access to the site and all the classes HERE.
It's a brilliant way to get energised and inspired for 2017, as well as to create some space to start making healthy new habits that could just be life-changing.
