As a model, designer and ambassador for M&S, David Gandy is a great friend of the brand. As an ex-newspaper Fashion Editor, Food Hall addict and (admittedly unofficial) ambassador for M&S, I am also a great friend of the brand. Ergo, it was alway destiny that the Gandy and I were going to be BFFs. He just didn't know it… until now.
My boy friend goals were realised this week at a glittering presentation and dinner for the M&S AW16 menswear collection, where the supermodel and I bonded over a shared intense dislike of Bikram yoga: "I tried it once in LA and I hated every second," David, 36, told me over a Percy Pig dessert plate at the event in London's super chic One Marylebone.
"It was so disgustingly hot that I'm sorry to say I had to take my top off halfway through," he winced, “Did you know it lasts for 90 minutes?! After one hour I was done. I might be strong but I am actually really inflexible... I can't even touch my toes.” This admission, accompanied by a toe-touching demonstration by the 6ft 3in beefcake (yes, I did just write that) may be the highlight of my year.
He added: “At the end of the session some of the class came up to me and asked how I got my body, and I said: ’Not by bloody doing this, that’s for sure. Get yourselves down to the gym and start lifting some weights. And then I suggested we all went to the pub.’"
My Detox|Retox hero. I’m so glad we’re BFFs.
David Gandy has released a capsule beachwear range of ten holiday pieces for M&S Autograph, with prices ranging from £15 to £29.50, available in selected stores now.
